What is Child Dedication all about?
This special service allows parents to publicly present their children to God, and to make a commitment as the primary faith trainers of their kids to raise them in such a way that points them to Christ.
What does it signify?
It is a parent’s demonstration of dedication, making a spiritual commitment to God concerning the upbringing of their child. This commitment involves a lifestyle of praying for the child, teaching from God’s Word and setting an example of an authentic Christ-follower. It is also an opportunity for the church to show support in prayer and encouragement to families.
How is this different from baptism?
Dedication is not infant baptism, nor does not indicate or assure salvation. We believe that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ, which comes through an understanding of the gospel message. Baptism is for believers and is a symbolic demonstration of commitment to Christ and His cleansing our lives from sin.
Where in Scripture is there a precedent for dedication of a child?
Hannah presented her son, Samuel, to the Lord in Shiloh (1 Samuel 1:11). Jesus was also dedicated to God (Luke 2:22), and He allowed little children to come to Him for His blessing (Matthew 19:13-15).
What is the next step?
If you are in agreement with the purpose of the Child Dedication celebration, then we invite you to participate. We consider this a sincere promise to God that flows out of your commitment to Jesus Christ. Click here for the online Dedication Form, where you will also see dates for the next Dedication services. Once you’ve completed this form, you will be contacted for the next step.
After registering your child, parents are asked to complete a prayer/blessing for their child in preparation for the dedication.
